Been playing the first track out, from 1966, New Orleans soul man Robert Parker's "Happy Feet." Parker got his start in Professor Longhair's band, then hit it big with "Barefootin'" in 1966, the same year that "Happy Feet" came out. "Barefootin'" was his only solo hit, but I'm gonna take Happy Feet over that one. Video's got some stills from some Northern Soul/mod dances, and they ain't too bad. I dig a lot of that faster paced Northern Soul stuff, but if you peruse some of the YouTube Northern Soul Dance videos you will see some pretty horrible (but nevertheless authentic) Northen Soul dancing from England in the late seventies and early eighties, flares and bell bottoms and bad haircuts and disco moves galore.
