Another long round of blagging. What can I say? Been hurt, but skated a few parks this week and last. Parks… who cares. My buddy Tait from Corvallis, Oregon (by way of LA) just arrived, and we are gonna shred some pools. On the moto tip, setback on the CB350/400F rebuild, but looking to proceed, and I found THE GUY to help with the BSA C15 rebuild (and found out it’s either a ’59 or ’60 frame, not ’61 – ’59 sounds cooler). In the meantime, here are some tunes to get you through your Friday.
To get you swingin’ just right, check this mostly instro by the Fabulous Shalimars: “Funky Line, Pt I.” I think these guys are out of Baltimore in the mid- to late-‘60s, but info on ‘em is scarce. This tune is a hummer, though!
Next up is Dani, French pop/ye-ye/garage from the ‘60s. This one was covered by April March on her second LP (same with “Laisse les Tomber Filles”/”Chick Habit” – which became known through Quentin Tarrantino’s “Death Proof” film). This is the original, about a girl and her Suzuki. Trying to track down the original 7”, but it is apparently a tough one to find. Don’t think she had any kind of major impact, but what do I know?
Finally, from Jolly Ol’, it’s Mike Sarne. He’s a cheeky bastard who sings in cockney, and is well known for his song “Come Outside” – at least in England, and among old people, I guess. But he also had a thing for the motorbikes: check this track, “Just for Kicks,” about doing the ton!
Nice one.
